B.A.B.E.S. started in August of 2000 as a way for Larry to show off the new boat he and his wife, Rhonda, bought to a few of his friends. That boat was a 1989 32 foot Bayliner Fly-bridge. It was just a simple run up the St.Croix river to the Kinikinik beach for a cigar and a few beers.
I don’t recall who it was but it was mentioned that next year we should go golfing first and after a few more beverages we came up with the name.
The first official “Bad Ass Boys Enjoying Summer” golf tournament was held in 2001 at Hidden Greens Golf Course in Hastings Minnesota. There were only 4 guys but they had enough fun for 12.
In 2002 we added a stop at RJ’s Tavern in Hastings between Golf and Boating. We had 8 guys this year.
In 2003 we made it a “best ball” tournament and had 12 guys. We also added a drawing for a Driver, which seemed to be a big hit. (no pun intended)
In 2006 we increased the size to 16 guys
The golf tournament has been played at Hidden Greens, Emerald Greens, and Bellwood Oaks golf courses.
In 2012 we increased the size to 20 guys
In 2013 we increased the size to 28 guys
In 2014 we increased the size to 32 guys
In 2015 we dropped to 28 guys
In 2016 we dropped to 23 guys
In 2017 we increased the size to 28 guys
In 2018 we dropped to 20 guys
In 2019 we increased to 38 guys
In 2020 we canceled due to Covid-19
In 2021 we were back with 32 guys
In 2022 we had 34 guys
In 2023 we had 34 guys
